Al-Mustapha dismissed the former DSS officer’s claims, saying the story was false. He said the former officer was encouraged by others to make the allegations and insisted that CCTV footage in his possession shows what really happened.
He also argued that the version of events shared by the former DSS officer did not match what actually took place. According to Al-Mustapha, the evidence he has contradicts the claims about the late General Sani Abacha’s death. He urged the public not to believe the allegations, saying it is unfair to make false accusations against someone who is no longer alive to respond.
“The young man was made to tell those lies. I have CCTV recordings of what happened, and his story is not true,” Al-Mustapha said. He added, “People should ignore the claims. It is wrong to spread false stories about the dead.”
Meanwhile, former DSS operative Amachree gave a different account. He claimed that in the early hours of the morning, a woman said to be Abacha’s girlfriend arrived at the Aso Rock Guest House with her younger sister, who was a pharmacist visiting Abuja for a conference. According to Amachree, the girlfriend later left, while her sister remained with Abacha.
Amachree alleged that some time later, the pharmacist noticed Abacha had become unresponsive while they were together. He claimed she tried to wake him but found no signs of life. According to his account, she left the guest house in panic, returned to her hotel, informed her sister about what had happened, and was taken to the airport for an early morning flight to Lagos.
He further claimed that he later questioned the pharmacist in Lagos on the instructions of DSS headquarters in Abuja. According to Amachree, the woman told him she did not cause Abacha’s death and insisted he died while they were together. He said she was then sent back to Abuja for further investigation.
