FIFA President Defends Plan to Create New Company for World Cup Business
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has defended a proposal to create a private company to manage and grow the commercial business of the FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on Wednesday, Infantino said the plan is only a proposal and not something FIFA members are required to accept.
He explained that the new company, called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), is meant to help FIFA generate more income from its tournaments through sponsorships, broadcasting rights, licensing, and other business opportunities.
According to Infantino, the proposal is part of FIFA’s consultation process and will only move forward if it is approved by the FIFA Council and supported by the organization’s 211 member associations.
He said FIFA believes there is still untapped commercial value in its competitions and that bringing in additional business expertise could help increase revenue.
Infantino stressed that the money generated would be used to support the development of football around the world and benefit FIFA’s member associations.
He also assured fans that the proposal would not change the sport itself. Instead, he said it would improve football development in many countries and create a better future for the game.
