Marcus Rashford has officially returned to Manchester United after his loan spell at FC Barcelona came to an end.
Barcelona had the option to sign Rashford permanently for about €30 million ($34 million) but decided not to complete the transfer.
Although the Spanish club reportedly considered bringing him back on another loan or for a lower transfer fee, the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi appear to have ended any plans to re-sign the England international.
Reacting to his departure, Rashford thanked Barcelona for the opportunity to play for the club.
He said he was grateful for the warm welcome he received and described his time in Spain as a memorable experience. He also wished the club and its supporters success in the upcoming season.
The 28-year-old is currently on holiday after helping England finish third at the FIFA World Cup.
Rashford is expected to report back to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground in early August to begin preparations for the new Premier League season, which starts with an away match against newly promoted Hull City on August 22.
