“They are voters for the election happening today.”
The officers then asked whether all the people gathered at the residence were registered voters from Ikire.
In response, Ibrahim explained that some of them were from the community while others were from outside the area.
He also denied hiring or promising anything to the people.
“Some of them are, some of them are indigenes from outside. I did not hire them. I did not promise anything,” he said.
Police Ask About Political Mobilisation
The questioning also focused on the political activities of the people at the residence and whether Ibrahim had brought them together to support a particular candidate.
The lawmaker denied being responsible for their voting decisions.
“Voting is their choice. I’m not their agent,” Ibrahim said.
He also confirmed that he is a member of the Accord Party.
During the incident, security officers were seen with several Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). Ibrahim explained that the cards belonged to the people who were present at the residence.
Election Security Tightened in Osun
The incident happened as security was heightened across Osun State during the election.
The Nigeria Police Force deployed senior officers and other personnel across the state as part of efforts to maintain peace and prevent electoral offences.
Authorities had also warned against activities such as vote-buying, voter inducement, electoral malpractice and the unlawful mobilisation of voters.
The presence of a large group of voters at a private residence therefore attracted the attention of security personnel, who questioned the lawmaker to understand why they had gathered there.
There is no indication from the information provided that Ibrahim was arrested or charged over the incident.
The video has, however, generated reactions online, with people expressing different opinions about the gathering and the questions raised by the police.
