APC Chairman Dies After Collapsing During Reconciliation Meeting in Kogi
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has reportedly died after collapsing during a party reconciliation meeting.
The incident happened on Friday, August 21, in Iyara, the headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area.
He Collapsed During Party Meeting
According to reports, Solomon suddenly collapsed while the meeting was ongoing.
The meeting had been organised to resolve disagreements among members of the APC and find ways to bring different groups within the party together.
He was reportedly given medical attention at the venue before being taken to a hospital in Kabba.
However, he was said to have been pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The exact cause of his death has not been officially confirmed.
Meeting Was Held to Resolve APC Crisis
The reconciliation meeting was reportedly organised by former Ijumu Local Government Chairman Funsho Olumoko as part of efforts to settle internal disagreements within the APC.
The party had reportedly held an earlier reconciliation meeting, but the discussions ended without an agreement because of an alleged leadership dispute.
The disagreement reportedly became so serious that Solomon and some other party stakeholders, including government officials, walked out of the earlier meeting.
The Friday meeting was therefore organised as another attempt to bring the different sides together.
Party leaders, local government and ward executives, women and youth leaders, as well as government appointees from the 15 wards in Ijumu, were reportedly expected to attend the meeting.
Tributes Pour In
News of Solomon’s death has reportedly led to an outpouring of condolences from political leaders and members of the APC.
Federal lawmakers representing the area, including Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, and Hon. Salman Idris, representing the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, reportedly expressed sadness over his death.
They described Solomon as a loyal APC member who contributed to the growth of the party at the grassroots.
Senator Karimi reportedly described him as a peace-loving politician and a bridge builder who worked to unite people within the party.
He said Solomon’s death was a major loss to his family, Ijumu Local Government Area and the APC in Kogi State.
Cause of Death Yet to Be Confirmed
Although reports say Solomon collapsed during the meeting and later died at a hospital, the exact medical cause of his death has not been independently established.
Further information may emerge as the family, party officials and relevant authorities provide more details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
His death has also cast a shadow over the reconciliation efforts, which were aimed at resolving the political disagreements within the APC in Ijumu.
May his soul rest in peace.
