Farmers Raise Concerns Over Missing 8,000 Bags of Fertiliser in Taraba

Farmers in Taraba State have raised concerns over the whereabouts of 8,000 bags of fertiliser supplied under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Fertiliser Input Support Programme.

The Federal Government launched the programme in July 2026 to improve food production across the country. Taraba State received 20,000 bags of NPK and urea fertiliser.

According to the distribution plan, 12,000 bags were given to the Taraba State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) for its members, while the remaining 8,000 bags were allocated to the Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for distribution to cooperatives and other registered farmers.

The Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Taraba, Luka Dabut, said the federal ministry received the fertiliser and later handed all 8,000 bags over to the state government.

He explained that the handover was carried out in the presence of officials from the state Ministry of Agriculture, security agencies, and other government representatives, adding that no bags were left in the federal ministry’s store.

However, the Taraba State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Nicholas Namessan, denied that the ministry received the fertiliser. He said the Federal Ministry of Agriculture handled the distribution.

Meanwhile, AFAN has already started distributing the 12,000 bags allocated to its members in Jalingo.

Farmers who were expected to benefit from the 8,000 bags meant for the state government say they have not received any fertiliser. They are calling on security agencies, the Presidency, and Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas to investigate the matter and determine what happened to the missing bags.
