Teenage Girl Recounts Terrifying Rape Attack by Nigerian Man in Wales
A young woman has spoken about the terrifying experience she went through after she was attacked and raped while walking home in Wrexham, Wales.
The woman, who was 19 at the time of the incident and is now 20, said she feared she might be killed during the attack.
The man convicted in connection with the case is Gift Oladele, 24, a Nigerian citizen who was born in Italy.
According to the details presented in court, Oladele approached the young woman as she was making her way home after a night out with friends on September 7, 2025.
He reportedly told her that he was heading in the same direction and offered to walk with her.
However, when they reached an isolated area, the situation changed.
The woman said Oladele grabbed her, covered her mouth and forced her into a wooded area.
She told investigators and the court that she tried to fight him off but was unable to overpower him.
Victim Feared She Would Be Killed
Recalling the incident, the woman said Oladele was physically much bigger than her and that she struggled to free herself.
She said he kept his hand over her mouth while she tried to push him away.
During the attack, she said she became extremely frightened and began thinking about her family.
The woman explained that her mind went into what she described as “survival mode” because she believed that resisting further could put her life at greater risk.
She also said the attacker asked whether it was her first experience of rape, which made the situation even more frightening for her.
According to her account, she suffered several blows to the head and was left with bruising after the attack.
She later told the court that Oladele made a disturbing comment after the attack.
Threats Made After the Attack
The young woman said that after the assault, Oladele told her that he believed she had suffered enough before making a comment about his appearance.
She also alleged that he warned her not to report what had happened.
According to the victim, he threatened to find her if she went to the police and also threatened to take photographs and share them online.
Despite the threats, the young woman decided to tell her parents as soon as she returned home.
She Immediately Told Her Parents
The woman arrived home at around 3:30am and immediately told her parents what had happened.
She recalled entering her parents’ room and asking them to call the police.
Her mother was reportedly so shocked by what she heard that she became physically sick.
Her father then contacted the police.
Officers arrived at the family home shortly afterwards, and the young woman began explaining what had happened.
She said she spent time walking around the living room as she tried to calm herself and prepare to give police a detailed account of the incident.
The woman said the support of her family helped her during the difficult period.
Suspect Arrested
Oladele was arrested the following day at the home of a relative in Wrexham.
Police reportedly discovered that he had attempted to hide a mobile phone.
Investigators later found searches on the phone relating to sexual attacks, according to the information presented in the case.
The investigation eventually led to Oladele being charged.
He denied the allegations and argued during the trial that the sexual activity had been consensual.
However, a jury at Mold Crown Court rejected his defence and found him guilty of rape and sexual assault in March 2026.
Oladele Had Previous Convictions
The case also revealed that Oladele had previously been involved in other serious sexual offences.
At the time of the Wrexham attack, he was reportedly on bail over another rape allegation in Manchester dating back to November 2024.
He had also previously received a prison sentence in 2022 following a sexually motivated attack.
His history became an important part of the wider discussion surrounding his case and his immigration status in the United Kingdom.
His Deportation Had Previously Been Challenged
Oladele, who is a Nigerian citizen, had entered the UK legally but later remained in the country after his immigration permission expired.
Following his earlier prison sentence, authorities attempted to deport him to Nigeria.
However, Oladele challenged the deportation decision, arguing that sending him out of the UK would interfere with his rights to private and family life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
An immigration tribunal later ruled in his favour.
The tribunal accepted that the offences were very serious and acknowledged the public interest in removing foreign criminals from the UK.
However, the tribunal also considered Oladele’s circumstances, including the fact that he had grown up in the UK and had developed his private life there.
The judge described the decision as a closely balanced matter and concluded that deportation would be disproportionate.
The Home Office appealed the decision, but the appeals were unsuccessful.
Victim’s Mother Questions the Decision
The victim’s mother expressed anger and frustration over the fact that her daughter was attacked despite having the right to walk home safely.
She questioned where her daughter’s rights were and said her daughter should have been able to return home after a night out without becoming a victim of sexual violence.
She also said Oladele showed no remorse during the court proceedings.
Police Describe Him as Dangerous
Wrexham Chief Inspector Caroline Mullen-Hurst described Oladele as a dangerous predator.
She said the young woman had been left fearing for her life during what police described as a disturbing and frightening attack.
The senior officer also praised the victim for showing courage and dignity throughout the investigation and court process.
She noted that reporting such an incident and later having to discuss it during a trial could be extremely difficult for a victim.
Long Prison Sentence
Following his conviction, Oladele was sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court on April 30, 2026.
He received a total sentence of 25 years.
This includes 17 years in prison, followed by an extended eight-year licence period.
The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
A restraining order was also issued to protect the victim for life.
Victim Continues to Deal With the Impact
The young woman said the period following the attack was extremely difficult for her.
She described September as the hardest month of her life and said the experience affected her emotionally and personally.
She revealed that there were times when she cried uncontrollably and struggled with thoughts about not wanting to continue living.
Her mental health also affected her ability to eat.
She eventually went to hospital after she found it difficult to eat properly and was told she had developed an eating disorder.
Despite the trauma, she continued with the police investigation and later gave evidence during the court proceedings.
Her decision to report the attack ultimately helped bring the case before the courts.
Home Office Response
A Home Office spokesperson described the case as horrific and expressed sympathy for the victim.
The department said it was right that Oladele received a lengthy prison sentence for his crimes.
The Home Office also stated that the government was continuing efforts to remove people who are in the UK unlawfully as well as foreign criminals who qualify for deportation.
The case has once again raised discussions about the protection of victims of sexual violence, the punishment of repeat offenders and the difficult legal questions surrounding the deportation of foreign criminals.
For the victim, however, the focus remains on recovering from the trauma of what happened and rebuilding her life after the attack.
