Police officers in Kano State have rescued nine passengers after armed bandits attacked a commercial bus along the Jos–Kano Highway in Doguwa Local Government Area.
The attack happened on Sunday evening, July 26, 2026, near the Falgore Forest area between Gate Two Safer Highway and Dogo Dutse. The gunmen stopped a Toyota Hiace bus travelling from Jos to Kano and attacked the passengers.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the attackers kidnapped 13 of the 20 passengers on board.
After receiving a distress call, police officers from the Doguwa Division quickly arrived at the scene and exchanged gunfire with the attackers. Their response led to the rescue of nine kidnapped passengers, while another male victim later escaped from captivity.
The rescued victims were taken to Doguwa General Hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
Police said three victims—one man and two women—are still being held by the kidnappers.
The Kano State Police Command said the operation was part of its ongoing intelligence-led and community-based policing strategy aimed at tackling crime and improving public safety.
Authorities added that efforts are continuing to rescue the remaining victims and arrest those responsible for the attack.
