Suspected bandits have reportedly kidnapped five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA), in Ogun State.
The attack happened on the evening of July 29, 2026, when armed men stormed a private student hostel along Paraga Road in Ipara-Remo, a community close to the school.
According to reports, the attackers spent about 30 minutes at the hostel, firing gunshots before taking several people away.
While some students claimed that as many as eight people were kidnapped, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) confirmed that five students were abducted.
Following the incident, the school management cancelled the examinations scheduled for Thursday. Students were advised to remain calm and continue preparing for their remaining exams while waiting for further updates.
In a statement, the SUG explained that the hostel is located in a remote area surrounded by thick bushes, making it vulnerable to attacks.
The union said several students escaped by breaking through the ceiling, while others were unable to flee before the attackers arrived. It also confirmed that no lives were lost during the incident.
The SUG said the kidnapping has been reported to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, expressing hope that the victims would be rescued safely.
The union also urged students, parents, and the public not to spread unverified information on social media, saying some reports about the attack were exaggerated and causing unnecessary panic.
The Chairman of Remo Local Government, Muyiwa Sodade, confirmed the incident and said security personnel had begun searching nearby forests for the kidnapped victims.
The Ogun State Police Command also confirmed that people were abducted during the attack. However, the police said they were still investigating and had not yet confirmed whether those kidnapped were students.
Police added that more information would be released as the investigation continues.
